Where Our Story Meets Yours

Hoop and Layer is a husband-and-wife team based in Melbourne, Australia, combining a love of craft with clever, intentional design. Natalee is the maker—deep into yarn and thread since forever, with crochet as her first love and embroidery close behind. Ian is the designer—always thinking about how things work and how they could work better.

 

The idea for Hoop and Layer sparked shortly after a 3D printer arrived at home. Natalee needed embroidery hoops in custom sizes, and Ian took one look at the traditional design and said, “I can improve this.” After dozens of test prints (and many couch-stitching sessions backed by house music), Hoop and Layer was born in 2025.
